You knew something was wrong the
minute you stepped into the lobby. You could feel it, but
you tried to ignore the knot in your stomach as you went up
the stairs. The night before, you had received a cryptic message from Allied Agent 17 asking you to meet him in Room 123 at the Hotel de la Mort in Paris. He had obtained information on a secret Nazi plan codenamed Operation: Rheingold, a plan Allied Command doesn't know about. It was extremely important, he said, that you meet with him as soon as possible. He was sure he was being tracked by the Gestapo, but he hoped he had shaken them off his tail long enough to pass the information along to you. Thanks to your years of undercover work, you snuck into the hotel undetected -- or so you thought. There was no answer when you knocked on the door of Room 123, and the fact that the door wasn't locked set off alarms in your head. Your fingers tightening on the .45 in your pocket, you slowly opened the door and stepped into the room. At first glance, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but then you heard the sound of dripping water coming from the bathroom. Pulling your gun out into the open, you opened the bathroom door -- and there was Agent 17, lying in a pool of his own blood in front of the bathtub. Before you could react, voices started shouting in German out in the hallway, and you realized the Gestapo had caught up with Agent 17 and set a trap for you! |
